This low carb broiled grapefruit brulee is one of those simple little morning treats that somehow feels like a proper dessert. You start with fresh grapefruit halves, then spread one caramelized mixture—made with brown sugar substitute, cinnamon, melted butter, and a pinch of sea salt—over the top before broiling. The heat turns the sweet, spiced topping into a bubbly, golden layer that cracks slightly when you dig in, just like a classic crème brûlée, but without all the fuss or the extra sugar. It’s an easy, practical breakfast that still feels special enough for weekends or when you’ve got overnight guests.
Serve the broiled grapefruit warm, right out of the oven, with a spoon for scooping out the juicy segments and caramelized topping. It pairs nicely with a side of scrambled or hard-boiled eggs for protein, or a small bowl of plain Greek yogurt if you want something creamy without adding many carbs. A cup of hot coffee or tea balances the bright citrus and sweet cinnamon. For kids or pickier eaters, you can add a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top to make it feel even more like dessert.
Low Carb Broiled Grapefruit Brulee
Servings: 4

Ingredients
2 large grapefruits, halved and chilled
3 tablespoons brown sugar substitute (such as a brown-style erythritol blend)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)
Nonstick cooking spray or a little extra butter for greasing the baking sheet
Directions
Preheat your oven to broil (high setting if your oven gives you the option) and move an oven rack to the upper third of the oven so the grapefruit will sit fairly close to the broiler element.
Lightly grease a rimmed baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray or a little butter. This keeps the grapefruit from sticking and makes cleanup easier.
Slice the grapefruits in half through the middle (not from stem to blossom end). If needed, trim a very thin slice off the bottom of each half so they sit flat without tipping.
