Rusty Muffin Tin Root Separator
Materials
1 rusty metal 6-cup muffin tin
Potting soil, enough to fill the muffin tin
3 pieces of scrap wood, each approximately 12 inches long
1 piece of chicken wire, approximately 18 inches square
Directions
Begin by cleaning the rusty muffin tin to remove any loose rust or debris, ensuring it is safe to handle.
Fill each cup of the muffin tin with potting soil, packing it tightly to ensure it stays in place when buried.
Cut the chicken wire to fit over the top of the filled muffin tin, securing it in place by bending the edges down around the tin.
Using the scrap wood, create a simple frame or border around the muffin tin to help stabilize it underground. This can be done by nailing the wood pieces together to form a rectangle that fits snugly around the tin.
Dig a shallow hole in the desired location of your garden bed, large enough to accommodate the muffin tin and wooden frame. Ensure the top of the muffin tin is level with the surrounding soil surface.
