Denim Weed Barrier for Gardens
Materials
Thick blue denim jeans (2 pairs, legs only)
White vinegar (1 cup)
Baking soda (1 cup)
Large plastic bag or container for freezing
Scissors
Garden staples or U-shaped pins
Directions
1. Cut the legs off two pairs of thick blue denim jeans, ensuring each section is as long as possible.
2. Lay the denim flat and sprinkle baking soda evenly across the surface of each leg.
3. Roll the denim legs tightly and place them in a large plastic bag or container.
4. Pour a cup of white vinegar into the bag, ensuring the denim absorbs the liquid evenly.
5. Seal the bag and place it in the freezer for at least 24 hours. This process enhances the denim’s weed-blocking properties.
6. Once frozen, remove the denim from the freezer and unroll it on your garden area where you want to prevent weeds.
7. Secure the denim in place using garden staples or U-shaped pins at the corners and along the edges.
8. Cover the denim with a thin layer of mulch or soil to integrate it with the garden’s natural look.
