My grandma from Ireland shared this recipe with me, and I promise I make it throughout the year!

Savory bread pudding is a dish that brings back memories of simpler times, when nothing went to waste and every meal was a celebration of the bounty of the land. This particular recipe, with its rich mushroom sauce, is a nod to the hearty, comforting flavors of the Midwest. It’s a dish that transforms humble ingredients into something truly special, perfect for a family gathering or a cozy evening at home. The origins of bread pudding can be traced back to the frugal kitchens of our ancestors, who knew how to make the most of day-old bread. Today, it’s a beloved classic that continues to warm hearts and homes.
This savory bread pudding pairs beautifully with a crisp green salad dressed in a light vinaigrette, which provides a refreshing contrast to the richness of the dish. For a heartier meal, consider serving it alongside roasted root vegetables or a simple grilled chicken breast. A glass of chilled white wine or a light ale would complement the earthy mushroom flavors nicely.
